Water Pipe Upgrades at Madderty and St David's, Perth
Project Overview
We are upgrading the water pipes in and around the Madderty & St. David’s area to ensure our customers continue to enjoy fresh, clear drinking water, and reduce the chance of pipes bursting.
We will be installing approximately 20km of new water main from north of the A85 towards Kirkton.
The programme of work is expected to last 16 months from November 2023.
The work is being delivered by our alliance partner, Caledonia Water Alliance.

What We Are Doing
The work will include strategic excavations along the pipe route, with some sections requiring open-cut replacement.
To facilitate this, there will be a range of activities on the roads and road verges along the route, necessitating various traffic management measures. These will include temporary traffic lights and road closures, with local diversions in place to ensure the safety of both our workforce and the public. All planned road closures will be clearly signposted in advance, and we kindly ask customers to follow the signage at all times.
Update August 2024
From Monday 9 September for approximately four weeks, further work will commence on St. David’s end of the road and will move north towards Craig Place on a rolling basis (diagram of traffic management plans below).
Both pedestrian and local resident access to properties within the road closure area will be maintained. The direction of access may vary depending on the location of work, but directional signage will be in place.

Community Engagement: Water Cycle Presentation at Madderty Primary School
As part of our ongoing commitment to engage with the local community as the project in Madderty progresses, our alliance partner, Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) recently visited Madderty Primary School to deliver Water Cycle educational talks to the entire school.
The team delivered two informative sessions, reaching approximately 70 enthusiastic students. Each student received a Scottish Water water bottle as a token of our appreciation for their participation and eagerness to learn.
The students were absolutely brilliant—polite, highly engaged, and full of insightful questions about the water cycle. Their curiosity and enthusiasm made the visit incredibly rewarding for everyone involved.
Those from CWA had a fantastic time interacting with the students and sharing knowledge about the essential role of water in our environment. We look forward to continuing our efforts to engage and educate our community on important topics like this.
Thank you, Madderty Primary School, for welcoming the team and showing such an interest!
