During our recent trunk water main upgrade on Castle Road in Ellon, Scottish Water was pleased to provide a free shuttle bus service, ensuring residents stayed connected while essential works were carried out.
The project involved replacing an existing 300mm PVC trunk main, originally laid in 1973, with a new 560mm PE pipe. This upgrade will improve reliability and increase capacity in the water network, supporting future growth in the Ellon corridor.
The road closure required for the works meant local bus services were temporarily diverted, leaving a small housing estate in the Castle Park area without direct access.
Following feedback from a local resident and councillors, Scottish Water and its delivery partner, Caledonia Water Alliance, in collaboration with Aberdeenshire Council, introduced a free shuttle bus connecting Castle Park residents to the diverted bus routes into Ellon Town Centre.

Shuttle bus service was provided to keep residents connected
“Not everyone has family readily available to provide transport, so a bus service, even reduced, is a Godsend. On behalf of my friends, thank you.”
Mrs Morrison
Local Resident
Clive Duncan, Customer Manager at Scottish Water, said: "It was wonderful to receive positive feedback from our customers. One resident, Mrs Morrison, an active 85-year-old non-driving widow, sent us a thank you card expressing how much the service meant to her and her neighbours. She said it made a real difference for appointments, as well as their mental and physical wellbeing.”
Mrs Morrison’s card read: “I write as an active 85-year-old non-driving widow to thank Scottish Water for providing transport to the Castle Park area during the road works. It is a bungalow estate and there are many elderly people who need to get about for appointments etc., as well as for their mental and physical health.

This is a great example of how Scottish Water plans projects with customers at the heart, ensuring essential works are carried out while minimising disruption and supporting communities along the way.
