Cowcaddens Road Glasgow Emergency Repair

No Way West
Cowcaddens Road is closed to all traffic westbound to allow the work to be carried out safely
We are close to completing out emergency repairs after a sinkhole was discovered on Cowcaddens Road in Glasgow city centre.
Significant progress has now been made after careful planning and design to ensure the work could be carried out safely due to high voltage cables in the immediate work area.
We now anticipate backfilling, reinstating and resurfacing the carriageway at the beginning of the week commencing Monday 14 April 2025 and once completed will hand traffic management arrangements back to the contractor carrying out ongoing street improvement works.
There have been no major issues for road users aside from being busier at peak times as would be expected and we would like to thank all of those affected for their patience.
The road remains closed completely to westbound traffic from its junction with Port Dundas Road and West Nile Street.
Traffic heading north on Hope Street - which is already reduced to two lanes because of ongoing street improvement works - can only turn right towards Port Dundas Road/West Nile Street.
Diversions are in place and drivers are being asked to follow all signs.

Excavation works have progressed well this week and our road traffic management remains in place.
Engineers have carried out CCTV investigations and our main sewer appears to be in good condition. However, one of the manholes at the location has been damaged and we are now carefully planning the repair.
Ground conditions are extremely tricky with many electrical cables and other services in the ground.
Our team continues to liaise with Scottish Power to ensure there is no impact on their infrastructure and that our planned repair can be carried out safely. Health and safety of our workers and members of the public is of paramount importance and great consideration must be given under these circumstances.
We are working as quickly as safety allows to complete the works at the earliest opportunity. We are unable to give a timescale for the completion of these works but will share more information when we can.
We continue to advise people to consider using public transport if travelling into the city centre, find another route or allow plenty of extra time.
We thank everyone for their patience and understanding.
All businesses are open as usual.
